Writing

We identify that communicating through writing is a vital skill for living in the modern world and, at Chepping View, we want our pupils to be able to confidently express their knowledge, ideas and emotions through their writing in a clear, cohesive and creative manner.  Writing is a tool that is often used to demonstrate children’s understanding across the curriculum.

We recognise the importance of nurturing a culture where children take pride in their writing, can write clearly and effectively and adapt their language and style for a range of contexts.  To that end, the children of Chepping View are encouraged to see themselves as writers, who write as readers, and have a wide range of vocabulary, an excellent knowledge of writing techniques, as well as a clear understanding of genre and text type.  

Our ambitious curriculum design supports our pupils to be confident in composing high quality texts and in understanding that writing is a process – drafting, editing and refining their work to incorporate core elements of spelling, punctuation and grammar.  Pupils take pride in their work by learning letter formation at the earliest opportunity and then adopting a fluent handwriting style from Year 2-6 and always strive to achieve their very best in content and presentation.

We strive for all of our young writers to develop a passion and appreciation for writing, writing for pleasure and discovering the magic in it whilst at Chepping View and in their life beyond this phase of their education.
